This didn’t happen overnight. Fitness was already here.

It’s tempting to treat this as a sudden pivot, like Miami woke up one day and traded velvet ropes for foam rollers. It didn’t. The groundwork was laid over decades, and it started with something most people outside the industry never noticed: professional athletes have quietly used Miami as an offseason training base for years, long before “wellness” was a marketable word.

Year-round warm weather and a growing bench of performance coaches and strength-and-conditioning facilities turned South Florida into a magnet for NFL, NBA, MLB and other professional athletes tuning up between seasons. This kind of facility work that rarely makes headlines, steadily built a deep, resident pool of elite-level coaching talent in the city. That talent didn’t leave when the athletes flew home. It stayed, opened studios, trained everyday clients, and became the infrastructure everything else was built on top of. By the time the boutique studio blitz rolled around, Miami wasn’t a blank slate. It already had the coaches, the facilities, and the culture of serious training in place.

The numbers tell a clear story: Miami's nightlife industry is undergoing a measurable shift.

Miami didn’t lose its nightlife scene, but 2025 was a rough year for the institutions that built its reputation. Miami New Times counted roughly two dozen notable bar and nightlife closures across the city in 2025, including several that had defined entire eras, Gramps in Wynwood, Finnegan’s Road on Lincoln Road, Brick, Cebada Rooftop, and more.

Meanwhile, the big-name clubs like LIV, Space, E11EVEN, and others are still packing floors. But this isn’t a story about Miami nightlife dying. It’s a story about the middle of Miami nightlife, the neighborhood bars, the local institutions, getting squeezed while something else expands into the space they left behind.

Miami isn’t just growing fitness, it’s exporting it.

While bars were closing in 2025, Miami was ranked the second most wellness obsessed city in America. And when happy hours disappeared, in moved fitness and wellness.

Huge brands like Club Studio opened a 38,000-square-foot flagship at Miami Worldcenter in the Fall of 2025, and a second location in Coconut Grove this year. Gym Shark is set to debut its first ever outpost dubbed the “Gym Shark Lifting Club” in Wynwood later this year. But fitness isn’t just moving into Miami, we’re exporting some of the fastest growing brands in the industry. Miami born-and-bred concepts like SWEAT 440, TREMBLE Pilates, Elev8tion, Reforming Pilates, Mimi Yoga, and countless others are continuing their local and national expansions, redefining the national standards of premier fitness concepts and brands.

But it’s more than just gyms and studios, it’s events and culture.

If openings and closings are the slow-moving evidence, the events calendar is where the culture change is loud and undeniable.

HYROX returned to the Miami Beach Convention Center in April 2026, part of a competition format that’s expanding faster than almost anything in the fitness industry, and has the attention of LVMH backed private equity.

ATHX, the Adidas-backed rival competition out of the UK, chose Miami for its U.S. debut as part of a 14-event global expansion, and is making a second stop in town later this year. It’s a clear signal that Miami is being treated as a flagship American market for competitive fitness, not just another stop.

But it goes deeper than HYROX and ATHX. Events like the Miami Marathon, founded by Frankie Ruiz who is featured in the podcast episode above, is growing in influence in the running calendar. Ruiz’s Brickell Run Club has literally set the aspirational goal for every run club on the planet, and it’s undeniable. Social wellness events like Coffee & Chill Miami, and social fitness events put on by yours truly (STAY FIT 305), are amassing hundreds of guests weekly. Both of which have been copy/pasted by upstart wellness communities around the country into oblivion.

Scrolling fitness event apps, you’ll see things like Pilates with Porsches, Yoga on a Yacht, Padel Clubs, Walking Groups, Cacao Ceremonies, Biohacking communities, and the list goes on. Each an additional signal that Miami is the epicenter of fitness in America.

But the events, the gyms, the studios, the run clubs, and the fitness community du jour, all have one thing in common: they are all shattering the nightlife/daylife norms of Miami’s past, by blending social with fitness & wellness, meeting the demands of our city’s future. And in the process, they have fixated every eye in the country on the 305.

So what’s actually happening here?

Nightlife in Miami didn’t die. The party just moved to 7 a.m.

In another battleground neighborhood, Monarch Athletic Club has announced the opening of their Miami Beach outpost on Lincoln Road, within the ClassX by RIVANI destination.

The club takes a data driven approach to longevity, fitness, recovery, and clinical health, and access to their premium amenities, coaches, clinicians, and performance specialists comes with a noticeable price tag. Monarch Athletic Club is part of a wave of luxury fitness concepts entering the market that cater towards the wealthy individuals relocating to Miami. A recent study just listed Miami as the eighth most expensive city in the U.S. for fitness, and its safe to say that is a modest ranking.

Miami’s largest fitness experience is set to take over the InterContinental Miami on Saturday, June 13th. The 2026 edition of Summer Sweat will have three stages, featuring some of the most waitlisted fitness instructors in all of Miami.

Hybrid Lab Brings HYROX Training to Brickell

Rewind a decade and Miami was flush with CrossFit boxes on every block. The model was to take an empty space, often a warehouse styled environment, and drop in weights, rubber mats, sleds, and more. But CrossFit’s moment dimmed in the years to follow, and what has replaced it is a format structured more for the every day gym goer.

Nude Miami Opens to Fanfare and Controversy

Not sure a grocery store has ever generated as much hype and online debate as Nude Miami, but here we are. The highly anticipated luxury grocery store finally opened its doors to shoppers, and people have thoughts … lots of them.

The hot bar seems to be a hit

Few would argue the quality of Nude Miami’s hot bar, which seems to be its biggest draw at the moment. Everything from steak to spicy rigatoni is on the menu, and feedback is generally positive to raving.

Smoothie options get a mixed reaction

Shoppers have shared a wide range of reviews on the smoothies, from incredible to not so great. And while it’s not a smoothie, nobody is denying the greatness of the Coconut Cult Passion Fruit Drip Froyo.

The prices are a bit head scratching

Where things seem to come off the rails for Nude Miami are the prices, specifically the produce. A grocery store’s produce department can’t operate like its CPG isles. If the fruits and vegetables don’t sell, they go bad, which is why $25 Driscoll strawberries are a hard swallow for shoppers. Those same controversial strawberries can be found three blocks away at Publix for a fraction of the cost, along with many of the other items on the shelves.

Only time will tell if Nude Miami becomes a staple in the community, or a short lived experiment.
